New Years Eve 2020 lockdown ideas.
As most of the country is in tier 4 this new year's eve, and quite frankly most of the world is locked down, things may be a little different this year (or if you're a parent who always struggles to get a baby sitter, not much will have changed) but don't despair!
After all let's be honest, nights out at the pub on New year's eve are the actual worst!
Overpriced drinks, queues 3 deep at the bar, forced fun and everyone linking arms singing a song they only know one line from and mouthing the rest of the song hoping no one will notice, like they're singing hymns at a wedding; no thanks!
So we thought we'd save you, with a few New year's eve lockdown alternatives.
1. Lockdown cocktails
Cocktails don't have to be all about del boy umbrellas and sex on the beach (circa. kavos 2006) why not use the tier 4 NYE as an excuse to learn some more refined recipes that actually taste good!
Check out the recipe for an old fashioned below:
1/2 teaspoon sugar
3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 teaspoon water
2 ounces bourbon
Garnish: orange peel
2. Movie Night!
Cinema has been a bit hit and miss this year so why not get a massive bag of popcorn, sweets, and your favourite set of snacks then settle down to your favourite movie, with the whole family or make it about you and wait until the kids are settled down to bed, so you can relax and actually watch the film.
If you've managed to save some money over lockdown you could even set up a garden cinema like the one pictured (which can be done for around £100).
3. Zoom virtual games night
If you've had enough of zoom quizzes for one year, why not set up a virtual games night over zoom with friends or family you could do a murder mystery, escape rooms or just classic drunk charades.
4. Make a slap up meal.
Why not use this time to cook a meal you've always wanted to try, with our busy lives and kids demanding chicken nuggets, we don't always have the opportunity to cook ourselves something posh. Alternatively you could just go in hard on a takeaway before those new years resolutions come calling.
5. Don't get caught up in it all.
Just because it's the last day of the year doesn't mean you Have to do anything!
At the end of the day most of our new years eve celebrations turn out rubbish because we put so much pressure on ourselves to have a good time and it becomes an anti-climax.
It's literally just a day like any other except the numbers change in the year column and your mum gets a new calendar for the kitchen. It's up to you when and where you have fun, so if you think it's going to make you feel rubbish just treat it like any other day and plan the mother of all celebrations when we can finally all meet up again.
